A Hidden Treasure
Without a doubt, there are many challenges to having a child who has a much younger emotional intelligence than their chronological age. However, it also means that every once in a while, you find little treasures like this tucked into the book you’re reading, a note I suspect that most other almost-13-year-old girls are likely not writing for their mothers…
“20 Good Things About Mom” (with some translation, by Gianna)
- 1. Nice (Aww….)
- 2. Amazing (Wow! I’ll take that!)
- 3. Smart (This is a good list!)
- 4. Caring (I definitely try!)
- 5. Colorful (Never been called that, but I’ll take it!)
- 6. Helpful (It’s just what you do for people.)
- 7. Accepting (Always. Unconditionally. It’s also just what you do for people.)
- 8. Married to Gigi (#twobrideszerogrooms)
- 9. Doula (It’s in my blood, my soul, my heart, and what has made me so well-equipped to be on this journey, without a doubt.)
- 10. Loves chocolate (Guilty.)
- 11. Good at Spanish (Bueno!)
- 12. Likes to travel (LOVE to travel, especially with my family!!)
- 13. Not afraid (Or at least not that you see.)
- 14. Good human (So are you!)
- 15. Feeds children (That feels like a given, but still glad it made the list!)
- 16. Listens to speaker (I think she wrote this when I was intently listening to someone give a presentation…pleasantly shocking, since I have been told previously that I look quite angry when I’m focused and listening.)
- 17. Loves her kids. (Guilty, times a million.)
- 18. Loves coffee (Also guilty, times a million.)
- 19. Works hard (Thanks for noticing!)
- 20. Likes to sleep (This one isn’t really true, but maybe it’s because I never actually do get to sleep. I would like to sleep!)
And please do take note of the “Good job Mom” on the top right—I’m doing my absolute best, Gianna. Thanks for the encouragement.
However, just to prevent this from all going to my head, I found this on the reverse…
“Mom as a tukey.”
And, yes, that is also apparently “tukey” (I presume she meant “turkey”) me yelling, “Time for bed!” I guess that’s what you call balance.
“If you’re going through hell, keep going.”
For last night’s midterm, I needed to memorize the definition of the word “trajectory,” as it relates to one’s life, stated as “Relatively stable long-term processes and patterns of events, involving multiple transitions.” As I
The Coronavirus Slide
About five minutes before Gianna shot these pics of our spontaneous dancing to the Cha Cha Slide, (which I’m clearly not very skilled at, but do have the ability to laugh at myself whilst doing,)
Life Imitates Birth, As Per Usual
Nine months ago today, a new life was conceived. Nine months ago today, I began my day by walking my son into an operating room, for a pseudo-routine jaw surgery, as much as any surgery
Home is Where Your Nest Is
It's 1:49 in the morning. I am keeping watch over my son while he sleeps to ensure nothing happens to compromise his breathing and/or health. (These duties are shared by the nurse, who so kindly
Ooh Child…
Today, but a sheer stroke of luck, I had a break in my schedule. Instead of filling it with an appointment request, I took the time to go to a yoga class led by one
The Light at the End of the ICU Tunnel!
For over three months, I have looked at that white board in his room at the “Anticipated Discharge Date.” Blank. Empty. No ideas. (Save for Gianna who wrote a while back, “We don’t know.”) No end
